Summer stories of the Big 4, Part 2

Arsenal signed Petr Cech from rivals Chelsea for £11million.

Now let’s go North of London to take a look at our F.A cup winners, Arsenal. Well, everything feels really cool and quiet over here. Are some people waiting to do their work at the last minute? I do that at times with my homework and it usually does not end well. You should only take that risk if you’ve at least achieved something already. Come on!, don’t even call Petr Cech, he is a great keeper I know that, but Ospina wasn’t terrible, Sczesny was actually quite good before he started smoking , one time he was compared with De gea for christ’s sake!!. Cech is a great signing, yes! but that surely cannot be all. I hope not. You cannot win the champions league, or the EPL with a center forward who produces 19 goals all season, and another who scores just 8 (and is quite consistent with that figure). Giroud and Welbeck cannot keep leading that front line. There have been old rumors of Walcott being deployed as a top 9, these sprung up again after his recent preseason hat trick. But I think Alexis Sanchez has a better claim to that position, having excelled as a center forward with Chile a couple of times. The Gunner’s midfield is full of talent, their defensive midfield though still has little question marks. Coqueline had a great season, and I really like him. He’s really good, but what if he gets injured like most of Arsenal’s players usually do, there is no quality cover. Last season was his break through season, lets see if he can match that with another good one. He is probably the reason Arsenal abandoned their pursuit of a certain Schnerderlin. Coqueline has done an exceptional work in protecting a very vulnerable back line.

Arsenal’s defense has been it’s undoing for so many years now. Last season wasn’t that different, they look really stable in some games, then suddenly go berserk in others. Metersacker’s lack of pace is a common issue, Kolscielsny can look 90% most times, and then go crazy without warning, with silly mistakes. The new signing Gabriel is yet to adjust. The wing backs improved a great deal last season, especially Monreal. Hector Bellerin showed so much promise but could work on his defending, because he tends to leave so much space behind when going forward. He proved to be better than Chambers last season. Arsenal still need to sort some things out, but they do have a lot of talent in their ranks already.

Manchester city signs Sterling for £49m making him the most expensive English player ever

Now we go back to Manchester, but this time to see the noisy neighbors. They have been pretty noisy this Summer with the acquisition of the troubled child Raheem Sterling, Fulham wonder kid Patrick Roberts, known as little Messi (Watch out for Patrick) and Fabian Delph from Aston villa. Manchester city is quite stocked in attack, with Aguero, Bony, Sterling, Silva and co. City do have a good midfield, if Yaya decides to play like we know he can, though he’s getting old. Fernando and Fernandinho are good defensively but can disappoint at times, and they lack creativity, but if they succeed in signing Kevin De Bruyne that should not be a problem. City did a good job in their recruitment this summer, they really needed some young blood in a really aging side. The normally okay defense under Kompany’s leadership was really found wanting at times last season. Kompany’s form took a huge dip the previous season, Mangala has not really impressed since his arrival. Manchester City do need to work on their defense, but if Kompany can bounce back to his old self they should be able to challenge for titles next season.
