The 5A Awards 2025/26: The Winners
The jury in London gave the year to Kane and Putellas. We agreed with them once and said no thanks on the other. Here are your 5A Awards winners, category by category.

Monday night in London, the Ballon d'Or jury picked Harry Kane and Alexia Putellas. Two nights later, the Five Aside community had its say.
Yes, I wrote a whole article saying Kane deserved it. The voters read it and went a different way. Respect.
Player of the Year: Lamine Yamal
Lamine Yamal is the 5A Player of the Year. Messi and Kane rounded out the top three, which means the man the Ballon d'Or jury crowned on Monday finished behind a 39-year-old and a teenager in our vote.
I'll say it again: Kane's case is strong, and I stand by every word. But the jury went with the full body of work, and our voters went with the season they actually watched. A teenager doing things week after week that made stadiums hold their breath is hard to argue with. Fans vote for the player who made them feel something, and this year that was Yamal.

Women's Player of the Year: Alexia Putellas

No drama here. Alexia Putellas is the 5A Women's Player of the Year, with Ewa Pajor, Khadija Shaw and Temwa Chawinga behind her. The jury and the community landed in the same place for once: a third Ballon d'Or on Monday, our Player of the Year on Wednesday. Well deserved.
The Best XI, and the tie the pod had to break
In goal, we fixed Monday's mistake. David Raya finished second in the Yashin Trophy behind Unai Simón, and here he's our goalkeeper. Good.
The back four is Achraf Hakimi, Pau Cubarsí, William Saliba and Nuno Mendes. Yes, Cubarsí made it. I'll allow it, because Saliba is right there next to him where he belongs.
The midfield is Jude Bellingham, Rodri and Declan Rice, but Rice had to earn it. The third seat finished level between Rice and Vitinha, so we did what any sensible football media brand would do and settled it live on the winners podcast. After the argument, the seat went to Rice.

Up front it's Yamal on the right, Raphinha on the left and Kane leading the line. The community may have denied Kane the big prize, but we still want him scoring our goals.
And look at the spine of that team: Raya, Saliba, Rice. Arsenal fans, you're welcome.
The rest of the night
Young Baller of the Year: Lamine Yamal again, which gives him three honours on the night, for a player who still can't legally buy a drink in the country this site is published from.
Best African Player: Achraf Hakimi, ahead of Victor Osimhen and Antoine Semenyo. Big year for him, and he anchors the XI too.
Moment of the Year: Messi's last dance with Argentina. Spain's World Cup, City's guilty verdict, Arsenal's title: all of it bowed to Messi pulling on the Argentina shirt one last time.

Coach of the Year: Luis Enrique, over Luis de la Fuente, the Ballon d'Or jury's Coach of the Year and the World Cup winner. The jury picked the summer, and we picked the season. I said it in the Kane piece and I'll say it again: have two separate awards, one for country and one for club. Problem solved.
That's a wrap
All the winners are on the site, the full debate is on the winners podcast, and the argument keeps going in the Discord: Yamal or Kane, Rice or Vitinha, jury or us. The 5A Awards will be back next year. Bring your votes, and bring your receipts.
