Sevilla’s new Talisman

There might just be a new star in La Liga, you might know him, but if you are English, or support England’s national team, then you probably do. Yevhen Olehovych Konoplyanka, that’s his name, you better remember it because by the end of this season, it will be a common name in football. No matter how difficult it is to pronounce, just like my name. He is a Ukrainian forward who recently signed for Sevilla from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, where he started his career. He is a three time winner of the Ukrainian footballer of the year award.
The first time I took notice of Konoplyanka was during the 2014 FIFA world cup qualifiers game against England where he scored a long range golazo. He really impressed me in that game, he is often described as the Ukrainian Robben, which gives you an idea of his playing style. I also watched a couple of his You tube videos and some of his games, and he is a great player to watch, a very good dribbler, great pace and has a very good shot. He was one of the stars in last season’s Europa league scoring 4 times in 7 games, He took his team all the way to the finals where they lost, and he probably got pissed of and joined the team that won that game, Sevilla. He scored 75 times in 236 games for Dnipro, from 2007 to 2015. Therefore he offers a reasonable goal threat going forward. He is also a key player in Ukraine’s national team, earning 45 caps for them and scoring 10 times. He is a player to watch, 25 years of age, approaching the peak of his career. So all you Barca and Madrid fanboys, whenever facing Sevilla, watch out for this dude, he can be a real handful.
