Arsenal’s title hopes

Arsenal fans can be forgiven for being pessimistic towards their beloved clubs Epl title aspirations, after all the disappointments of seasons gone by. For the past few seasons the gunners have usually been considered also-rans, never threatening to win the title but always in the midst.
The 2013-2014 season was the last time Arsenal fans genuinely had hopes of becoming champions, before injury set in. They led the table for more than half of the season. That was Aaron Ramsey’s best year on an individual level. He consistently went on goal scoring runs, winning games by himself during the season, especially before his injury, which led to Arsenal’s slump in form. Ramsey finished the season with 16 goals in 34 appearances, despite missing about 3 months due to injury. He deservedly won the club’s player of the season. Apart from Ramsey, Arsenal suffered injuries to other key players, such as Ozil who started the season considerably well, as a new signing. I actually believed Arsenal would have gone on and won the title that season, it was a bit difficult to see them go from from title aspirants to struggling for the usual 4th place in one season. The gunners actually ended their embarrassing trophy drought that same season, with non other than Ramsey scoring the winning goal against Hull city during extra time in what should have been a much easier game. The 2014-2015 season was nothing more than a really average year for the gunners, finishing third, never really troubling anybody in the title race. They only threatened as usual to break their recent champions league knockout stage curse. They had been forgiven for drawing much better teams in seasons past. However this time they got Monaco, a team despite having a good defense at the time, where considered much weaker than Arsenal. But surprise, surprise, Arsenal did the usual, completely fall apart in the first leg, and almost pull a remarkable comeback in the second, while missing open posts along the way, no thanks to Olivier Giroud. The biggest positive last season, apart from winning the FA cup again, was Alexis Sanchez, he proved his word class level, dragging Arsenal through a number of game, the genuine game changer whom Arsenal fans had been crying out for all this while. He scored 24 goals across all competitions. He was my best player in the EPL last season, despite Hazard winning it.

Sanchez is the main reason Arsenal fans dare to hope, and one of the key reasons I believe this season provides the Gunners with their best chance to win their first EPL trophy since the Invincibles.
Apart from the obvious facts that Arsenal possesses arguably the best attacker in the EPL at the moment, Alexis Sanchez, and a world class play maker in Mesut Ozil who is finally starting to deliver, Arsenal have enough about them to win the Epl this season, not solely because they are a great side, but that the rest of the teams look worse than them, asides from Manchester city who might end up being their main challenge. City though look likely to keep dropping points unnecessarily. As long as the Gunners keep playing the big teams the same way they played United, and keep disposing of the smaller teams as usual, they should win it. Manchester United, while looking like a resurgent team, do not look ready to win the title yet. Chelsea are suffering from a huge dip in form, still struggling to win games, should find their form as the season goes on though. If Arsenal find a way to keep their key players fit for the rest of the season, they should be up there come the end of this campaign.
